Location: Inchinnan (HQ), with support to other global design locations
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to lead the design and development of our Gas Chromatography (GC) gas generator products. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will guide a multidisciplinary engineering team, set technical direction, and ensure robust systems engineering practices from concept through to product release. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineering leader with systems design experience and an interest in gases, hydrogen, or applied chemistry, who enjoys balancing people leadership with complex technical delivery.
The role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead end‑to‑end product development for GC gas generators, ensuring designs meet safety, compliance, performance, and quality standards. You will collaborate closely with teams across Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Service to deliver innovative, reliable products used by customers worldwide.
As a people leader, you will coach and develop engineers, promote consistent engineering standards across design locations, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead system-level product development from requirements and architecture through detailed design, verification/validation, and release
- Own system requirements, interfaces, and technical trade-offs (performance, safety, reliability, cost, manufacturability)
- Set and drive consistent engineering standards, documentation, and design practices across global design teams
- Plan and manage workload, risks, priorities, and delivery commitments across multiple projects
- Lead design reviews, technical decision-making, and verification strategies
- Champion design for safety and regulatory compliance
- Support investigation and resolution of field and production issues
- Manage budget and engineering spend within your scope
Team leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management
- Support career development planning and skills development across the team
- Build a high‑performing, engaged, and collaborative engineering culture
About you
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Chemical, Systems, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline
- Proven experience leading engineering or technical teams delivering complex electro‑mechanical or gas/fluid handling products
- Strong systems engineering capability, including requirements management, risk analysis, and verification/validation
- Ability to translate customer and regulatory requirements into robust technical solutions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable experience
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
- Experience with gas generation, hydrogen systems, GC gases, or analytical instrumentation
- Applied chemistry experience (including catalysts, adsorption/drying, or contaminant control)
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as CE/UKCA, pressure systems, EMC/LVD
- Experience working with CAD, PLM/PDM, and ERP systems
What we offer
