About the role:

We are currently recruiting a Finance Director who will be responsible for leading and managing the Company finance team (30) and supporting the COO and CEO on a daily basis as well as on ad hoc projects including M&A activity and strategic projects. You will be responsible for leading and managing a global finance team in a fast changing environment to support the business needs.

As a key member of the Operating Board you will be responsible for reviewing and providing high level monitoring of the financial controls across the business and promoting and leading continuous improvement projects. You will be responsible for the Company reporting requirements including all reports to the Board (management accounts, forecasts, budgets) and to external parties e.g. banks, auditors. You will also be responsible for managing the financial governance of overseas subsidiaries and for all group transfer pricing and overseas tax compliance.

Your role will include reviewing Company performance both from a financial and commercial perspective and making insightful commentary. You will liaise with the business heads to ensure they are ‘on point’ with current targets and are reviewing progress and routemaps.

You will have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that meaningful financial information is available accurately and timeously and through analysis ensure that adequate interpretation is clearly set out in reports for the Company Board. You will also ensure statutory compliance, commercial, tax and treasury matters are facilitated in a pro-active manner.

This role will suit a highly experienced senior finance professional who is driven by growth and the challenge this role presents. You will have the key attributes to be able to influence at all levels both internally and externally, as the key contact for the banks, insurance providers and auditors. You will be an experienced manager and will have strong leadership skills and track record in developing high performing teams. The role will consistently present challenges. The successful candidate will have a “can-do” approach and be able to develop managed solutions to the expectations of a high growth business.  It is essential this person is commercially orientated and is driven to deliver successful, pragmatic solutions for the Company. 

There will be a high degree of autonomy within this role and it will suit an individual who can marry a high level of intelligence with grounded common sense. 

Typically the successful candidate will have held a Finance Director position for at least 4 years and will possess demonstrable experience of creating a proactive working relationship with divisions or subsidiary companies. They will ideally be comfortable working in a demanding environment and can develop, implement and manage effective changes, at pace, within an organisation. They will challenge the norm and provide reasoned business cases for change. 

Key Accountabilities:

Reporting

  • Preparation of annual budget
  • Oversee and review each business’ monthly management information against budget and seek explanations for variances from business finance teams
  • Review and input into preparation of consolidated monthly management accounts and produce variance analysis with commercial commentary
  • Review, finalise and submit monthly management information pack for Bank
  • Prepare draft Board Papers for MD regarding the performance of the Company with insightful explanations, variance analysis and recommendations
  • Review and issue weekly report for Company Board including sales reporting, and consolidated cashflow forecasting
  • Manage, approve and monitor cost centre budgets and provide explanations for variances against budget
  • Management of transfer pricing policies
  • Develop and own monthly reporting structure for all overseas entities
  • Production of year end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations.

Leading & developing the team

  • Develop a multi-disciplined, multi-location finance team with the range of technical skills and interpersonal skills to meet the business requirements (15 HQ and 15 based in our Overseas offices)
  • Create a working environment for the team that stimulates, rewards and sets clear expectations of performance and results
  • Develop a strong and effective performance management culture, consistent throughout the team that empowers staff, whilst encouraging full accountability within a fully-integrated working environment
  • Develop an effective departmental succession plan supported by development programmes and a coaching/mentoring framework

Tax

  • Review of corporation tax computations and tax accounting and act as point of contact with HMRC for correspondence and meetings
  • Effectively manage all overseas tax matters ensuring all overseas filing requirements are met and that the group transfer pricing policy is fully complied with
  • Keep up to date with key tax changes and proposed changes which may affect the Company

External Relationships – Bank & Audit

  • Review, finalise and submit monthly management accounts to the bank and act as main point of contact with bank for any queries
  • Act as main point of contact with auditors
  • Identify and make recommendations for any potential audit issues
  • Keep abreast of key updates on technical accounting developments and produce recommendations for Board
  • Ensure all accounts are submitted to Companies House in a timely manner

Company Secretarial – Insurance, legal, patents, trademarks, licensing

  • Act as main point of contact for company insurance brokers to ensure that the company needs and risks are being effectively covered
  • Review major claims within the Company
  • Responsible for reviewing and managing all treasury and cash forecasting
  • Overall responsibility for company secretarial, legal and reporting
  • Key point of contact for with company lawyers and review all legal claims, informing Board as appropriate
  • In role as Company Anti-Bribery and compliance officer ensure procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are aware of legal responsibilities and documentation is up to date
  • Manage and ensure compliance with group foreign currency hedging policy
  • Responsible for renewal of patents and trademarks in conjunction with Company marketing
  • Management of share certificates and entity registration information

Payroll

  • Lead, manage and develop the payroll team
  • Review and authorise monthly payroll for across the Company

Experience and Qualifications:

  • CA qualified essential
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Board level experience essential, having worked with division/subsidiaries
  • Experienced at managing partnership relationships with banks, external auditors and insurance providers
  • Company secretarial experience essential
