Due to continued growth, we are recruiting a talented New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering – Team Lead to manage our NPI Engineers at Peak HQ in Inchinnan, Renfrew.
Reporting to the NPI Engineering Manager, your primary focus will be to lead a small team of Manufacturing Engineers to support the smooth introduction of new products into the existing manufacturing process at Peak. Driving the Design Develop Process (DDP), your team will work closely with Design Engineering (DE) and will have responsibility for ensuring the team deliver to plan. You will also support the DE group with special projects and will be responsible for delivery of engineering support to the shop floor and to other areas of the business as required. A key focus will be to improve quality, throughput and efficiency in build of manufactured product.
The role will also involve:
- Supporting and liaising with NPI Engineering Manager to manage workload of departmental resources between NPI, Special Projects and Production Support.
- Prioritising workload of the team to meet departmental and company objectives.
- Managing the support required to work new products from the design and development process and ensuring;
- that all production data, such as drawings, Bill of Materials, Manuals, Assembly Procedures/Work Instructions and test procedures are complete prior to handover to production
- The manufacturing process is subject to an effective risk assessment, including an PFMEA
- the smooth integration into production with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption through the train the trainer process
- the project is managed to predetermined deadlines and budgets.
- The design and specification of any new manufacturing processes or equipment specific to the improvement of production.
- Ensuring that SAP data is current & correct.
- Conducting annual employee reviews and mentoring and developing the team.
- Implementing & manage key performance indicators and provide monthly management reports.
We are looking for an NPI Engineering Team Lead with a proven track record of leading small teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will possess an HNC/HND in Manufacturing, Production or Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Or alternatively, have a minimum of ten years’ experience in a high mix, low volume progressive production environment.
The ideal candidate will also possess:
- Creative engineering skills and is comfortable working with tools, including a working knowledge of pneumatic and electrical systems.
- Proven analytical problem-solving skills.
- Keen attention to design and documentational details.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques and value engineering, preferably a minimum of a green belt in LSS and experience of leading cross functional projects.
- PC literate with experience of MS Office tools and computerised production control systems.
- Knowledge of MRP systems (SAP Business One preferred).
- Solidworks Composer experience for the generation of work instructions.
- The implementation of shop-floor design layouts
- Experience of production line design & balancing.
- A working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management system principles and the application to departmental and company processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Ability to see the big picture in order to prioritise effectively.
