As an integral member of the Design Engineering Team, the Senior New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer will design products from concept to prototyping, sub-assembly design, engineering builds, training builds and finally to manufacturing. You will undertake design and development activities for efficient, high quality manufacturing ensuring design for manufacture best practice.
Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering you will ensure new products are implemented with full documentation and training provided to ensure sustainable production. You will also support the DE group with special projects and be responsible for delivery of engineering support to the shop floor and to other areas of the business as required.
You will be comfortable working in a hands-on capacity and bring a fresh approach to problem solving. You will be responsible for the following:
- Designing safe manufacturing processes from concept to production, ensuring parts and materials are fit for both purpose and efficient manufacturing with high yield.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement in product and manufacturing processes.
- Preparation of control documents / work instructions / training aids and to provide technical support to all relevant departments when necessary for technicians to pick, build, inspect, test and pack product and support all subsequent changes in product and processes.
- Working with the design team, you will be preparing the design package for transfer to production, as well as developing ERP routings, process flows, build timings and manufacturing cell layouts
- Support the design, commissioning, and training of production line tooling and equipment to support manufacturing processes.
- Carry out process validation for new/existing manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements.
Ideally you will have degree in an Engineering discipline or proven experience within an engineering background with previous experience of working as a NPI Engineer and have the following experience:
- Implementing engineering solutions to technical problems using industry standard tools, for example FMEA, DFM, lean manufacturing principles
- Driving alignment of New Product introduction strategy with internal stakeholders and standard process
- Maintaining and following up corrective action plans
- Working with cross functional departments for post launch analysis, ongoing review, reporting
- Using 3D CAD software– such as Solidworks
- Knowledge of Nitrogen and Hydrogen gas generation using Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), Nitrogen Membrane and Hydrogen Cell technologies would be beneficial but is not essential
- Experience of SAP B1 or similar MRP / ERP system would be advantageous
- Robust IT skills, experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher etc
